FRIENDSHIP WAGON TRAIN RAISES OVER $30,000 for CAMP WINNEBAGO

The Friendship Wagon Train, lead by John and Monica Davis, rode from Byron, Minnesota to Camp Winnebago the week of June 21 to June 27.  On Saturday, June 28 they concluded their week with breakfast and a recognition ceremony in the Camp's Dining Hall.  This year's Wagon Train raised over $30,000 for Camp Winnebago.  All Wagon Train donations are used to provide camperships for campers with developmental disabilities who cannot afford the full cost of a week of fun social and recreational activities.  Camperships are based on federal income guidelines to ensure campership dollars raised go to those in need.   The Camp Winnebago Board of Director and Camp Winnebago Staff greatly appreciate all of the Friendship Wagon Train volunteers.

CAMPGROUND RE-OPENED -- FLOOD REPAIRS CONTINUE

Camp Winnebago's lower campground re-opened to the public on Friday, June 27, 2008.  Both modern and primitive sites are available.  The road to the campground is repaired and one of the foot bridges spaning the creek has been replaced.  Call the Camp Winnebago Office at 507-724-2351 to reserve a camp site.   Other campground repair including the replacement of bridges will continue throughout the summer.

Located on 116 beautiful acres in Houston County, MN, Camp Winnebago lends itself to many of nature’s finest activites: hiking our bluffs and trails, fishing for trout in the winnebago Creek, camping out at Hidden Hope Island, and canoeing at the pond.

We also have a swimming pool, barn and nature building, sports field, picnic area, music and crafts rooms, a large dining hall and modern cabins.

A network of sidewalks and ramps make for easy access to all camp buildings and program areas.

Camp Winnebago is a private, non-profit 501C3 organization dedicated to serving the recreational, social and educational needs of adults and children with developmental disabilities. We welcome any individual age six and older.

Our mission is "To enhance, through a diversity of experiences, the self worth, independence, and quality of life of people with developmental disabilities."

Our camp staff is one of our strongest assets. This group of caring, responsible individuals from throughout the nation and from other countries, is specifically recruited and professionally trained to work with campers with developmental disabilities.

The vast majority of our summer staff are working in or towards service careers and have a strong desire to serve others.

Our camper to counselor ratio is either two to one or one to one based on the needs of the individual camper. Staff make sure that each of our participants have the needed care and attention they deserve.

Campers enjoy a variety of experiences at Camp Winnebago ranging from recreation to nature activities to arts & crafts to music & drama in a safe, caring environment.
